It’s hard to spot Torrox on a map of Spain, even when you know roughly where you’re meant to be looking. This is because with a population of just a few thousand people, it’s never going to make a big impact on any map, but if you’re looking for a relaxing holiday on the Costa del Sol and a taste of some authentic Andalucia life, it may just be the destination of choice.

Torrox is found in the Spanish region of Andalucia located just 5km from the popular holiday resort of Nerja, and only 40km from the International airport at Malaga, making it ideally placed for travel around the region. The Sierra Nevada skiing resort near Granada can be reached within a 2-hour drive, as can the Rock of Gibraltar for those interested in visiting this wonderful corner of British history.

Torrox is split between Torrox Costa that lies on the Mediterranean coast and the inland village Torrox Pueblo located just 3km inland. Over the years both have been slowly migrating towards each other with the appearance of new properties and developments that follow the meandering road that connects the two. Both are quite different with the holiday attractions they offer, but together they provide the holiday visitor a good choice between beach activities and village life.

Torrox Pueblo is a whitewashed village that clings to the hillside like snow precariously hanging from a tree branch. It is how you would imagine a typical Andalucia village to be. These include the baroque church of the Incarnacion, church of San Roque and chapel of Nuestra Senora de las Nieves, Mudejar in style and originating from the 16th century.

Details of the walk can be obtained from the small Tourist Information Office that can be found on Calle Baja, located just off the main square. Opening times are quite limited even during high season, but the best time to try is between 11am and 2pm midweek.

Life in Torrox Pueblo centres around the main Plaza de la Constitucion. The square is lined with vibrant orange trees and centred with an attractive water fountain. The sweet smell of Orange and relaxing sounds from the fountain add to the ambiance and tranquillity of the location. There is also a fine choice of bars and restaurants to choose from and some tasty local cuisine. By ordering a selection of tapas you have the opportunity to sample a wide range of local dishes at an excellent price. Life in the village is slow and relaxed and best appreciated here with good company.

Torrox Costa on the other hand offers a fine promenade lined with a good selection of bars, restaurants and souvenir shops that overlook a golden sandy beach. The only time it gets excessively busy here is during the month of August when it feels like all of Andalucia has come to the Costa to escape the fierce heat experienced further inland.

There are water activities available during the high season for those interested, and during the warm Summer evenings many stalls appear along the promenade selling a variety of goods including leather, textiles and ceramics.

Most people know the famous places where one could take the waters.

In Belguim there is of course the famous Spa the place where the very word “Spa” comes from then in England you have Bath. Nearly all of Iceland has multi Hot Spring locations as there also in North America and Rotorua in New Zealand to name but just a few.

In Spain there is one example at a Spa Village in the Mountains.One of better-known Hot Springs in Spain is located in the beautiful Andalucian region of Malaga. In the foothills of the Sierra Blanquilla Range, sitting snugly on a mountainside to the north of the Guadalhorce Valley is the spa village of Carratraca. Carratraca has been well known for the healing properties of its sulphur-water springs for thousands of years. It was famous during the 19th century, when the English poet Lord Byron was a regular visitor. Located near the main square, this ancient facility is constructed in the Roman tradition out of sandstone and marble.

Since time immemorial visitors have flocked to these places to take the waters, knowing full well that the effect will be to soothe aches and pains as well as providing the mental respite of escaping from the trials and tribulations of the stresses and strains of everyday life for a while. Of course, the popularity of these hot springs comes at a price: sometimes they can get extremely over crowded. Fortunately for those looking for a more private bathing experience, there are many more hot springs around. Some are located in out of the way places, known only to the locals; others are simply not as famous but are equally pleasant. Alternatively of course one can have their own Hot Spring in a Hot Tub in Spain in their very own garden or on a patio or a roof terrace.

Now what is the one thing that these Hot Spring Spas from past do not have – it is of course an electric Air Blower (after all in days of old electricity had not been discovered) which is often fitted on modern day spas.

The basic idea of air coming out of those pepper pot jets in a Hot Tub Jacuzzi as in some spas or mixed with water as in some others is too provide air blower therapy which increases the blood circulation to your skin and Doctors that I have spoken to have confirmed this train of thought. . Our skin represents by far the largest component of our body which helps us to remove poisons and the like. When our skin is invigorated, naturally our overall health is improved and this helps to remove toxins from our body and has a direct result in increasing our personal vitality as our mind body & soul receive the rejuvenating treatment.

It is a well known medical fact that the lower legs, the Tibia & Fibia areas,between the knee and the feet and ankles are the longest distance from our hearts. That is why if you break your leg below the knee the “lower third” is the area which is the hardest to heal often needing bone grafts to get the healing process on its way. I speak with personal experience having spent more than a little time with my leg in traction with a broken femur and the leg below the knee in a plaster cast with a broken Tibia & Fibia. This lack of circulation is also why the ankles can get those blue looking spidery blood veins, and then of course our legs often get varicose veins. Gravity and the actual weight of the blood circulating causes higher blood pressure and what is often referred to by Chinese Doctors and acupuncture specialists as “stagnant blood”. Of course in reality there is no such thing as stagnant blood; rather it is blood which is circulating slowly and not circulating as fast as it should.

When one submerses their body into warm water the blood became more or less neutral in weight as it has a similar weight to water. The effect of this is to reduce the pressure on your legs and at the same time the effects of gravity pulling on the body are much reduced.

What is missing however is the blower therapy, which is specifically designed by doctors to increase blood circulation in your skin, legs and feet. The effect is very similar to taking a nice warm fluffy towel and gently wrapping and rubbing this around your body and legs a bit like being immersed in ones own massage cocoon.

A spa with an air blower does actually help to reduce those spidery veins that appear on ones feet and ankles. I notice that as I use Hot Tub Jacuzzi spa mine are beginning to reduce so when looking for a Hot Tub Spa make sure that you have an air blower.

Dona Julia Golf on the Costa del Sol has only been opened since January 2006.

Located in Casares on the Costa del Sol Golf, which is 88 km from Malaga and 50 km from Gibraltar. Situated just 150 metres from the beach and surrounded on all sides by nature, and for a course so young in construction, it has matured superbly and is in excellent condition throughout. It has two different layouts and will entertain high handicappers as well as true golf professionals.

As for the golf course itself, it was designed by the renowned Malaga architect Antonio Garcia Garrido, the creator of several prestigious golf courses and is notable for the way it blends in with the natural landscape of the area and the wonderful Mediterranean views it offers.

The first 9 holes are longer and perhaps more difficult winding between indigenous trees, lakes and rivers, whilst the other 9 holes are perhaps more manageable with a gentle incline. The main feature of almost every hole is the spaciousness of the greens, which have an average area of 700 square metres! Our advice would be to take advantage of the buggies that are available, as this is not a true walking course due mainly to the distances between greens and tees.

At the moment there is a temporary club- house and pro-shop but that and all the ongoing development, does not detract from the facilities on offer at the moment.

Holiday resorts for swingers and tailor made swinging holidays are becoming more and more popular as the concept of living the swingers lifestyle is gaining social acceptance and respectability.

Elsewhere in Spain there is a swinger holiday hotel with eighty rooms and three suites for swinger groups. The hotel is located on the Costa Del Sol near to Malaga. Also located on the outskirts of Malaga is a four double-bedroom villa with totally secluded pool and terrace facilities suitable for both swinging and naturist leisure. Further east along the coast near to the resort of Nerja another similar villa offers swinger holidays with regular parties.

On the Canary Islands there are popular swinger resorts on Fuerteventura and Tenerife. On Gran Canaria there is very popular swinger party venue where you can find something going on any night of the week but you will need to stay elsewhere because it does not accommodate.
