Andalucia, a Wonderful Holiday Destination · Costa Del Sol Malaga EU

Andalucia, a Wonderful Holiday Destination
The Costa del Sol has long been one of the most popular holiday destinations in southern Europe, and quite rightly so as it has much to offer in the form of reliable sunshine, beautiful safe beaches, good restaurants and nightlife, good quality and affordable accommodation along with plentiful and cheap flights from a vast choice of airports. However The Costa del Sol is only a very small part of the wonderful Autonomous Region of Andalucia.

Rural tourism has opened up this superb area of southern Europe and it is now possible to rent a villa in many outstanding and remote areas hither too unexplored by the vast majority of tourists. To a large extent the countryside has been unspoilt by the recent developments along the Costas and there are still many out of the way and remote areas to explore. In recognition of this several new air routes have now been opened up with very reasonable flights into both Jerez and Granada airports.

The white villages, or “Pueblos Blancos” are a good starting point as in the main life goes on in them much as it has done for centuries. Casares, Gaucin, Benaojen, Estacion de Cortes, Cortes de la Frontera, to name but a few, are all delightful places to spend a few hours ambling around, marvelling at the architecture, the slow unchanging pace of life and sampling the various tapas bars. During the summer months every village holds a traditional feria with music and dancing in the streets all night long.

Andlaucia is of course the home of Flamenco dancing and bull fighting. The oldest bullring in Spain is to be found at Ronda, and whatever your feelings are on this rather emotive sport it is an interesting building to visit as is the adjacent museum. The old part of the town is also a lovely place to visit with its amazing Tajo (gorge) and wealth of old buildings. A train ride from one of the white villages further down country such as Jimena or Gaucin, is a lovely way to arrive at Ronda as the train passes through some beautiful countryside not visible from the road. It also continues on up to Granada which is a must for any visitor to Andalucia with its stunning Alhambra Palace, old gypsy quarter and many other places of interest.

The wildlife in Andalucia is amongst the best now left in Europe with an astonishing array of birds, both resident and migrant, it is particularly well blessed with birds of prey such as Griffon and Eygptian Vultures, Bonnelli’s and Booted Eagles, Peregrine falcons, Red and Black Kites, to name but a few. These magnificent birds are a common site soaring majestically above the mountain ranges of Andalucia. It is also home to wild boar, mongeese and genets most of which are not particularly well appreciated by the local population as they do a lot of damage to gardens and live stock, however they are all now protected by law. In the spring the countryside puts on a stunning display of wild flowers, some of which are now quite rare in other parts of Europe.

There is much unspoilt countryside where one is quite at liberty to walk and camp, just being careful with fires in the dry summer months. Whilst official footpaths and signposting are rather limited there are few real restrictions as to where you can wander as long as you just use common sense with regard to rubbish, fires etc. However always take water with you as you can easily find yourself in the middle of nowhere with no natural source of water nearby.

So take a holiday away from all the hustle and bustle, rent a private villa, hire a car and just enjoy exploring this delightful region of Spain.

Costa Del Sol – A Holiday Destination For Everyone · Costa Del Sol Malaga EU

Mucho More About Here: http://costadelsolmalaga.eu/

I remember the first time I visited the Costa del Sol – it was on a college trip some 16 years ago. We stayed in Torremolinos and I have to say I wasn’t impressed, but after a work’s educational in May of this year I have totally changed my mind. The Andalucian tourist board that laid on our trip have spent a lot of time, effort and money updating this lovely stretch of Spanish coastline and I was most impressed with the level of cleanliness.

Our first port of call was Malaga itself, which is home to the main airport here – again on a typical beach style ‘bucket and spade’ holiday, you would never really know that this beautiful city exists! We stayed here for 2 nights visiting the bullring, cathedral and its many stylish cafes and shops – so if it’s a city break you are looking for; try a holiday to Malaga, as it’s one of Spain’s more undiscovered cities but well worth a visit.

The next resort along is Torremolinos, which again is one of the older resorts here – a firm favourite with all nationalities and home to many hotels and apartments. The fine sandy beach here stretches right along the coast from one resort to the next and is ideal for families – even the promenades have been well maintained and renewed to make it more modern and appealing to the eye. This resort houses many shops, bars and restaurants and is an ideal choice for all age groups.

Another ten minutes up the coast brings you to one of the nicest resorts along here, which is Benalmadena – slightly more upmarket than the other resorts, this is home to a modern marina surrounded by plush apartments and upmarket restaurants. There are many hotels and apartment complexes, an array of shops, bars, restaurants and some popular nightspots, which all contribute to making Benalmadena a firm favourite among holidaymakers, not to mention the cable car, which operates every day, taking you across the motorway and up to the bird sanctuary in the Spanish mountains – A must while you’re her. Furthermore, Tivoli World is a theme park ideal for the kids! Benalmadena Pueblo makes for a quieter break – this is a typical Spanish-style village next to Benalmadena, but a lot more peaceful.

For the last 2 nights of our trip we were taken to Fuengirola. Just ten minutes on from Benalmadena, Fuengirola may well be the most popular resort in Costa del Sol, home to many hotels that line the promenade, stretching up to the marina. Fuengirola is a firm favourite with the elderly clientele, mainly during the winter months, and in the summer popular with all ages, with plenty to do. Fuengirola Zoo is well worth a visit – I really enjoyed myself there! We actually went into the Lima enclosure with them and watched them sunbathe! A great day out, for all the family.

One place I had never been to, but heard a lot about along the Costa del Sol, was Mijas. All I can say is “Wow! What a beautiful place”. I would recommend anyone visiting the area to take a trip up there before you leave. An Andalucian village nestled high in the mountains with its whitewashed houses, cobbled streets, small cafes and boutiques. In the main square, horse and cart rides await the tourists – there are many little spots to take breathtaking pictures of the scenery. We also visited a nearby golf complex called La Cala resort, home to apartments, a hotel and beautiful golf courses – they even do golf training here – and many football teams come here for their training weeks. They also have a spa – ideal for the ladies!

Marbella and Puerto Banus are also very popular with tourists – probably the most upmarket and expensive area to visit, with the marina at Puerto Banus housing million-pound yachts belonging to many a famous person. With a wide array of stylish nightspots, bars and restaurants and plenty of designer shops and boutiques to keep you amused during the day!

The Costa del Sol stretches for miles and I haven’t covered all resorts, but as you can see from the ones that I have visited, there really is something here to suit everyone – for a city break, try Malaga or Granada. It really is a golfer’s paradise here, with many courses available from 9 holes through to 60! If you fancy a spa break, there are many nice hotels offering great spa packages.

For a quiet week on the beach or for a fun-packed family holiday, you really can’t go wrong with Spain holidays. I will definitely be going back very soon!

The Costa del Sol, Europe’s Premier Holiday Destination · Costa Del Sol Malaga EU

Mucho More About Here: http://costadelsolmalaga.eu/

Since the 1960’s and the advent of package holidays the Costa del Sol has always been one of the premier holiday destinations in Europe, and with good reason. The weather is perfect, with little or no rain between the beginning of June and the end of September. The beaches are long, clean and sandy and the vast majority have the coverted blue flag award also, the Mediterranean, being practicaly tideless, you never have to worry about the tide being out and bathing is relatively safe.

If this isn’t enough then there is also the excellent night life with bars and clubs staying open until the early hours and a great choice of restaurants up and down the coast. The Andalucian people are very friendly and obliging and crime is relatively low.

Recent years have seen vast improvements in the infrastructure with both the road networks and Malaga Airport being significantly improved. In addition air routes into both Granada and Jerez now offer the visitor a greater choice of flights and very reasonable rates.Gibraltar too has increased their number of regular flights.

The type of holidays people are taking has changed in recent years with a shift away from the more traditional package tours as more and more people appreciate the flexibility of renting their own apartment or perhaps a villa with a private pool. Many holiday makers are starting to explore the beautiful countryside just a short drive from the Costa where they can enjoy the peace and quiet of renting a country villa whilst at the sametime being able to easily visit the beach.

In addition to lazing on the beach the Costa del Sol now has alot of other attractions to offer visitors, Selwo Wild Life Park near Estepona being just one. This is a super day out for all the family not only entertaining but educational too. Likewise Selwo Marina is a superb attraction at Benalmadena with the only Dolphinarium in Southern Spain. At Torremolinos and Mijas Costa you will find 2 brilliant Aqua Parks, with a vast array of slides and pools.

If you wish to take a more cultural outing then The Picasso Museum at Malaga should be on your agenda or for plant lovers visit the The Botanical Gardens also at Malaga or the Bonsai Museum at Marbella.

One other attraction for the Costa del Sol is certainly not new but should definitely be on your list of places to visit and that is Gibraltar. It is of course steeped in history and has the only troop of wild monkeys in Europe. The beautiful St. Michael’s caves are also well worth visiting and then of couse there is the tax free shopping.

For the golfers there is an awe inspiring choice of excellent golf courses of all different levels, some by the sea and some set in stunning mountain scenary. New ones are reguarly being constructed and as a result many golfers return year after year to the Costa del Sol.

Another first on the Costa is Mijas Race Course where evening meetings are held weekly throughout the summer. In addition they hold many top clas concerts, including such artists as Sir Elton John, Rod Stewart, UB 40 and Bryan Adams. They don’t forget classical music lovers either, giving concerts by world class orchestras.

So whilst the Costa del Sol is traditionally reknown for “sun, sea and sangria” it has moved with the times and now has alot to offer the more discerning holiday maker who wants more from his holiday than just these ever popular elements. Nerja Holiday Destination On The Costa Del Sol · Costa Del Sol Malaga EU

Mucho More About Here: http://costadelsolmalaga.eu/

Nerja is the most eastern town on the Costa del Sol and is 55 km (about 35 miles) from Malaga. It is only 50 minutes drive from Malaga’s International Airport and an hour and a half from Granada and the Sierra Nevada ski resort. Part of its beauty comes from its magnificent geographical location. Within an area of 84 square kilometres and a population of approximately 17,000, it is one of the two municipalities in the whole province of Malaga with the most protected nature parks (’Sierra Tejeda-Almijara’ and the ‘Maro-Cerro Gordo’).

Protected by the ‘Sierra’ mountains from the winds of the north and bordered by the Mediterranean Sea, Nerja enjoys an exceptional subtropical all year round climate.

From a tradition of fishing and agriculture, the primary economic activity of today is tourism. Because Nerja still conserves its culture, and together with its beaches, cliffs and mountains, it is one of the more popular destinations for many people looking to have a closer contact with nature; not forgetting, of course, the fairs, traditional festivities and nightlife that the town has to offer.

Nerja boasts 16 kilometres of beaches with powdery sand and sparkling clear water. All major water sports are available here, including water skiing, scuba diving and sailing. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes here to choose from, and the visitor can hire a horse-drawn carriage to explore the most romantic corner of the town. It is said that Nerja has about 600 tapas bars, cafes and restaurants and as such will suit all tastes and pockets.

Flanked by a dramatic Sierra Almijara mountain range to the east, the town has fortunately managed to avoid being blighted by the concrete high-rise scenario, which has been the inevitable result of the tourist boom in some of the coastal resorts. The old quarter of the town is still virtually unchanged with narrow, winding streets, whitewashed houses with wrought iron terraces overflowing with geraniums and borganvillea.

The heart of Nerja is its spectacular Balcon de Europa, the “Balcony of Europe”. It is a magnificent promenade along the edge of a towering cliff, which once the site of the great Moorish castle. There are sweeping panoramic views of the Mediterranean and of the small coves and beaches below, against an awesome backdrop of hazy mountain scenery.

The town’s monuments include the 17th century Church of El Salvador, in a style, which is a charming mixture of baroque and Moorish, or Mudejar, and the beautiful Gardens of Capistrano Playa, which descend to Burriana Beach.

Nerja’s most spectacular attraction is undoubtedly its fascinating caves, located just three kilometres from the centre of town. They include archaeological treasures such as paintings over 20,000 years old and other pre-historic remains. One of the enormous natural caverns has been transformed into a concert hall, where many performances are staged during the summer.
