The Province of Málaga is located on the southern coast of Spain, in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia. It is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the South, and by the provinces of Cádiz, Sevilla, Córdoba and Granada. A little known city, it is gradually becoming popular thanks to cheap flights being offered by many airlines. Tourists arriving to the city are generally interested in the tourist resorts, particularly those on the beaches along the Costa del Sol (”Sun Coast”). But apart from this there are several other interesting facets to this city.

The city has a rich historical and cultural heritage. Founded by the Phoenecians more than two thousand years ago, the province was also ruled by the Moors and Romans. This heritage is aptly visible in its castles, museums, theatres and churches. The fact that it was also under Arab control for a long period is visible in its pastries and cakes that have a definite Arabian style. The local cuisine which is greatly sought after by tourists consists of an assortment of fried fish and high-quality shellfish, while the delicious sweet wines and pastries do well as afters. A traveller looking for good cuisine around exotic surroundings can easily take the cheap flights to Malaga for an excellent culinary experience.

Best sights around the city are along the walk up to the hill to the Gibralfaro castle and once on top one can enjoy the breathtaking scenery. Within the city one can see the façade of the City Hall, the Merced square, a museum dedicated to Pablo Picasso or the house where he was born. With cheap flights now being offered, a tourist with an interest in history would be most satisfied by the monuments in the city such as Teatro Romano de Malaga, Cathedral de Malaga and La Inglesias de Sagrario. Apart from these there are the beautiful corners, such as the Alameda Principal or the promenade of La Farola. One can also walk down to the Paseo del Parque, which has many palm trees and statues alongside.

The best time to visit Málaga is during the Holy Week which is celebrated in August. This festival, declared to be of International Tourist Interest, stands out because of its tremendous floats and the popular fervour it arouses in each neighbourhood. The Malagan fair is also well known for its bustling activity, the flamenco shows and bars full of people having wines and tapas. There are several good resorts and hotels where one can book accommodation in advance. It is a good idea, however, to book well ahead at this time of year. Otherwise tourists can also take the cheap flights being offered in the months of May and October, when the season is reasonably good and the city is also not very crowded. The city is well known for its excellent golfing facilities and an avid golfer can come here on the cheap flights to try some of the best golf courses in Europe. Well known among them are Club de Golf, El Candado and Gualdalhorce Glub de Golf.
